Resumen: For years, clinical researchers have worked to identify the psychological, social, and physical effects trauma has on individauls. But one dimension conspicuously lacking in our response to trauma has been spirituality. In many ways this is understandable: therapists are often less religious than ther client, and spirituality and religion have long been considered outside the purview of psychology. However, for many survivors, spirituality and trauma are so inextricably intertwined that to ignore or downplay this dimension in therapy risks treatment failure. In this book, editors Donald F. Walker, Christine A. Courtois, and Jamie D. Aten argue that trauma work is inherently spiritual, and that therapy must include a focus o the client's most cherished beliefs in order to fully heal. Contributors address a wide range of client presenting problems, with a specific focus on relational forms of trauma, such as sexual abuse, partner violence, and other familial forms of trauma, as well as war and natural disasters. Readers will learn to differentiate between healthy and unhealthy forms of spirituality and to apply spiritually oriented practices, within their own setting and theoretical framework, while working with unique client populations.
